Type of Garden: Peaceful courtyard garden: Based on the history of this house and life story of the present owner, I have invented an original theme that revolves around “Women’s Love”. One of the gardens is The White Garden to honor and remember Mrs. Binsse, who in 1905 managed the construction of her summer residence with the Architect Oscar R. Smith.

The Relaxation Garden – Concept

Type of Garden: Courtyard garden and sensory garden: This healing garden design is therapeutic, safe and uplifting through simplicity… This restorative space displays a purpose of fun relaxation within a relatively small outdoor space. This unique relaxation garden concept offers the following features:

• Meditative promenade on the aggregate path (periphery)
• Spacious central opened space for doing exercises such as Yoga
• Privacy, wind protection and four seasons appeal with the edge of evergreen trees (on the left side of the garden)
• Gentle aromatherapy planting of lavender and low maintenance boxwood shrubs (on the right side of the garden)
• Fashionable and comfortable chairs for reading, day-dreaming or afternoon nap (we all need one of these 😉
• Noise filtration and soothing sound of the water fountain to facilitate a good state of relaxation

Centre for Mental Health | The Oneness Garden Project – Proposal Development

Type of Garden: The Oneness Garden would provide a greater and safer access to nature by creating evidence-base Therapeutic Garden to promote stress reduction for patients, visitors, and staff. The garden design would inspire deep connections with the “Now” and stimulate the pleasant and peaceful feeling of being “One” with the universe.

Hoerr Schaudt’s expertise in garden design stems from the training and interest of partner Douglas Hoerr, FASLA, who formed a critical part of his education studying under some of the greatest garden designers in England. The firm designs gardens that thrive in the most challenging sites. Projects include hospital green roofs, the medians of Chicago’s famous Michigan Avenue, a rooftop garden for children that produces thousands of pounds of food, botanical gardens for the Chicago Botanic Garden, and award-winning residential gardens from New England to California.

Hoerr Schaudt is comprised of talented staff of nearly 30 professionals with expertise in landscape architecture, architecture, horticulture, sustainability, LEED requirements, and certification in the design of healthcare gardens. In healthcare settings, the HGA Landscape Architecture Studio is experienced in creating healing and restorative environments for patients, visitors, and employees. Across project scale opportunities – including full site plans, connecting courtyards, green roofs, and viewing gardens – the HGA Landscape Architecture Studio partners with its clients to promote health and well-being.

Established in 1987 as Studio LA, the firm relocated in 1999 from Portland, Maine, to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Today, known as HBLA, the firm designs three archetypal gardens. They are meditation, therapeutic and rehabilitation. Gardens range from a 20 by 20 square foot urban meditation garden to a 500 acre retirement community encompassing intensive site engineering and a 5 acre pond. HBLA project types include Hospitals, Continuous Care Retirement Communities, Green Initiative Cottages, Assisted Living Facilities including Skilled Care, Hospice Homes, Rehabilitation Centers, Alzheimer’s Facilities including other forms of dementia, Veteran Homes, Wellness Centers, Wellness Trails, Public Parks, Medical Office Buildings, Schools as well as private clients and their homes.

Our healthcare design philosophy centers on the belief that the hospital setting is a healing environment. An environment designed to support the understanding that healing not only includes the body, but also the mind and spirit. We believe the health care environment should be responsive to the varied needs of staff, patients and visitors, promoting health and a sense of well-being.
