Registration is still open for the upcoming Chicago Botanic Garden Healthcare Garden Design Certificate Program, and for the one-day seminar, “Gardens That Heal: A Prescription for Wellness.”

Where else can you learn from top designers and scholars in the field, meet and work with a diverse array of talented and enthusiastic colleagues, and receive a certificate in Healthcare Garden Design, all on the grounds of the stunning Chicago Botanic Garden? Environments for Aging is just around the corner!

The fantastic Environments for Aging conference is just around the corner…chronologically (April 9-12) and for me, geographically–it’s in Austin, TX! What a beautiful, fun, vibrant city for a conference. Not sure if the bluebonnets will still be blooming, but I’m sure other wildflowers will be. In fact, if you can take an extra day and go see the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center, you will thank me.

I’ll be presenting with Susan Rodiek and Eric Bardenhagen on Sun, Apr 10 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM on “Planning, Designing, and Evaluating Outdoor Spaces to Optimize Usage” – see description below. And here are some other sessions I’m looking forward to attending. Hope to see you there!

Do you ever wish you could be in more than one place at the same time? I would so love to attend this event. So I’m asking you: Please go in my stead and report back.

A connection to nature is essential to human health and wellbeing. If you are interested in learning about the healing power of nature, and understanding more about how nature increases health and improves wellbeing, you should attend our Nature-Based Therapies Public Forum on Sept. 30. For those interested in the application of nature-based therapies research, and how it can be applied to your workplace, clinic, or professional environments, consider attending our Nature-Based Therapies Research Symposium. These events are hosted by the University of Minnesota’s Center for Spirituality & Healing and the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

The Healing Nature Forum promotes awareness that the connection to nature is essential to human health and well-being, and interactions with plants and gardens provide physical, psychological, and community benefits. This year’s forum will focus on the factors of healing, meditation, contemplation, and restoration of therapeutic gardens. Join us as we welcome horticultural therapists, landscape architects, and researchers to discuss the importance of horticulture as therapy.

This year’s keynote speaker, Naomi A. Sachs, MLA, EDAC is Founding Director of the Therapeutic Landscapes Network and a PhD student in Architecture at Texas A&M University within the Center for Health Systems and Design. I always look forward to HEALTHCARE DESIGN, the annual conference produced by Vendome Healthcare Media and the Center for Health Design. There’s only one problem: It’s too good! There are always too many sessions that I want attend. Ah, the agony of choice. Not such a bad thing, really. And this year, it’s in sunny San Diego. The facility tours are sure to be excellent, and the education sessions look great – below are a few that I hope to attend, and one I’ll be speaking at (“Therapeutic Landscapes for Specific Patient Groups”) with my book co-author, Clare Cooper Marcus.

Earlybird registration is open for another two weeks (ends 8/8), so get on it.

The annual HEALTHCARE DESIGN Conference in Orlando, Florida this fall is months away, but the opportunity to save significantly on the registration fee is coming to a close. Friday, May 10 is the last day to receive the “super saver” conference rate for the event that takes place November 16-19, 2013.

The premier conference is devoted to the design of responsibly built environments and how such settings directly impact the safety, operation, clinical outcomes, and financial success of healthcare facilities.
