Wordless Wednesday
(Almost) Wordless Wednesday, 7/13/11 – Fountain ripples
July 13, 2011
I had the good fortune to be able to visit the Ulfelder Garden at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston last week while attending the Design & Health World Congress. Stay tuned for a blog post with images and description of the garden. In the meantime, here’s an interesting article, from The Holistic Oncologist, about an evaluation of the garden based on guest book comments.
And here are some of the comments from the guest book on the day of my visit:
“Thank you to all the physicians that took care of my treatment this last day of treatment, 6/17 – this garden is ideal!”
“Thank you for this miracle garden.”
“Peace in the garden.”
“This is truly a healing garden.”

Wordless…Thursday, 5/12/11 – OTT (over-the-top!) Tulips
May 12, 2011
Yesterday was the last day of the Chicago Botanic Garden Healthcare and Therapeutic Design Certificate Program, which I feel so honored to now be on the “faculty” of. What a great group of students and instructors! I was extremely impressed with the students’ final projects, a courtyard design for a continuing care retirement community in Chicago. We now have 21 more people in this field who will bring quality, evidence-based healthcare design to the people who need it – patients, clients, visitors, and staff. If that doesn’t give us hope, I don’t know what will!
Here’s a shot of tulips, taken a couple of days ago at the Garden.
(Almost) Wordless Wednesday, 5/4/11 – Tulips and Primroses

Taken last year at the Chicago Botanic Garden. The garden is on my mind because the Healthcare Garden Design Certificate Program starts today and runs through May 11th. In my opinion, it’s one of the best intensive programs for training in this area of the field. I’m headed out there on Friday and will be teaching a class on “Finding the Answers: Research for Evidence-Based Design” next Tuesday. Looking forward to many walks in the garden!
